Customer rating is 5 of 5  BioShock - Begining of an Awesome Series   2010-07-02
By Joe (Anywhere, IOWA)
Playing BioShock for the first time is an intense and very rewarding experience. Playing it for the second time is just as much fun, with a few more surprises to be found. After playing and beating this game three times, I can say that this is definitely one of my top ten XBOX 360 Games. We had come across this game by chance, and it had positive reviews, which could mean a good game or a group of people that have lost their collective minds together in a mass mental suicide. In the case of BioShock, I am happy to say that this game delivers. No spoiler here, so read on with safety of knowing the the characters are vibrant, the story is intriguing and engaging, and you will not regret this game at all. Minor things could have been left out, but overall 4 and 3/4 stars out of 5. The closest game to perfection that I have played in a while. For First Person Shooter / Sci-Fi RPG fans. This game is a must for your collection.

this is the game lots of people point to when discussing whether video games can be "art". I would say that the art design and the story are quite unique and the weaponry is fun. It has been pointed out, though (most recently in an IGN article about the art topic) that despite the great story, the game is still just you running around shooting things. And, in fact, I felt at some points that the variety of weapons had not been justified. Even when I beat the final boss, I wasn't paying attention to the weapons I was supposed to use (it's one of those classic "if the bad guy is fiery then use ice to defeat him; if he's ice use fire." and yet, I just used whatever and still beat the game on Hard on the first try.

Anyway, little complaints aside, this is a really fun game with a good list of achievements that are not ridiculous (though there is the seemingly required "find a thousand hidden items that add to the story but are not necessary". ah, game design.)

If you're not a big fan of first person shooters, you might find BioShock a little dull. But it's not overly difficult, so it stays fun.
Customer rating is 3 of 5  Not as "Great" as Everyone makes it out to be.   2010-06-19

Back in it's day, this was probably a decent title to play and own. But since it's prime is now gone, it's not much of a game to own nowadays.

One of my main problems with this title is that although the story was pretty decent, it wasn't as great as I thought it would be with what I've heard and read. It's story pretty much consists of being lead around by voices of people over a small radio that you'll either kill later on in the game, never meet face to face, or they die beyond your control (save for just a few people, but the instances are so far and few between that's it not even worth mentioning). With that said, it's pretty much safe to assume there's next to nothing of cut-scenes, save for the one that plays at the end. But it's not even worth watching due to it hardly revealing anything in particular or failed to strike a emotional chord (no matter how you played the game). Also, the infamous "Plot Twist" I found to be far from believable. How anyone could buy that for a second is just downright not bright or gullible to begin with.

Although I will admit I got easily immersed of the World of Rapture right off the start. If only the rest of the game could keep me there and not loose me through it as I progressed through it. Otherwise it quickly turned into a Linear Shooter even though it did have Sandbox elements to it. I think it didn't have enough of it, probably could use more openness about it instead of being cramped and dark everywhere you went.

Enemies after awhile become generic, since there's only about four or five different types of them aside from Big Daddies and Little Sisters. Final Boss battle was also a disappointment. It pretty much consisted of running around and blasting at it while it did the same moves over and over again.

Environments are impressive, but after you've seen one you've pretty much seen them all and this rings too true for Bioshock. What was also a sad fact is that it also felt there wasn't enough environment interaction to me. While there was a degree of it there, it only consisted of a few things like setting oil spills on fire or shooting electricity into pools of water. I want more than that.

It's probably good for one, maybe two play-throughs. Otherwise, it has next to nothing in replay value if not worth owning out right.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Amazing!   2010-06-09

Seriously one of THE best games I have EVER encountered! The plot is amazing and the over all game play is fricken fabulous. You wont regret buying this game, trust me.
I'd suggest you play this one first before Bioshock 2 although you dont have to considering the plots don't tie in. But it just makes the experience of playing the second one much more worth while if you already understand the first game. Plus you get much more excited from the upgrades in the 2nd game.
Overall, this game is very very well done, and extreamly fun. I'm envious of all the new players experiencing Bioshock for the first time. Its and amazing ride, you'll love it. PLAY IT!

I loved Bioshock. The story-line was imaginative and new. The game play was pretty fun... my only complaint is some of the little quests you go on get get a bit tedious... but other than that the game rocked my socks off.
