I bought this not online, but at a store, making it a bit easier to return when I realized that this did absolutely nothing for my neck. It did not even come close to massaging the right area and actually made very little skin contact. This is a real hunk of junk!

You can buy the HomeMedics NMSQ-200 Neck and Shoulder Massager w/Heat and a DVD movie using the Super Saver Discount and your Amazon.com Gift Card balance. Of course, you will get an email confirmation immediatly, however I received another email confirmation 6 hours,33 min. later confirming my items were already being shipped. I was able to pick it up at the post office in 9 days.
I couldn't wait to try it. Being a good consumer, I read all the instructions and safety rules first. The box is big and so is the product inside. The Amazon picture may make it look small.
The product uses four AA Batteries which you can buy on Amazon Duracell Procell AA Batteries, 24-Count. The compartment is in the back of the neck area. Just unzip the product.
The product is for Indoor use only. Never use it outside, in the bathroom and never under the sheets in bed. The heating device can be used with the electrical unit included. The red lights that turn on in the neck area signals the heat is on.
Very simple to use. Just place around the back of your neck and press the appropriate button on your right. Low and High. The massager will only last for 15 minutes, including the heat, and will shut off automatically. You may shut off the heat and vibration anytime before 15 minutes.
Use of this product is not limited. Try it on your lower leg muscles as well as holding it on your back.
You can use the HomeMedics Neck and Shoulder Massager while you use the computer.

Customer rating is 2 of 5  flimsy power connector broke quickly   2010-05-23
By Guitar Tim (Midwest)
(See bottom of review for several updates)

I had the earlier version of this Homedics product. I loved it. It lasted years.

But the latest version has an extra-flimsy power connector, which split quickly and shorted out. I only got a few months' use before failure.

In ordinary predictable use, my neck massager's power connector failed after a few months, due purely to a very cheap and flimsy power connector.

The power connector is a flimsy cheap plug that inserts into the front of the unit. In the old unit I had, the power cord was permanently connected into the neck massager, and you plugged it in. 180 degree opposite in design theory, and three years difference in durability.

Imagine how you use a hand iron on the ironing board --- You end up twisting the cord as you use the iron. The iron usually has a very thick power cable to accommodate how people use the product -- to accommodate the twisting from using the iron.

Oops --- this new version of the Homedics neck massager has a power cable the tiny size of a set of cheap headphones ---- 1/5th the size necessary for durability, if compared to the size of an iron's power cord.

So my power cable frayed and shorted out quickly, at the point where the power cable plugs into the neck massager, as a result of the ordinary twisting action that results from putting on and taking off the product.

I should add that I use the massager daily, to provide neck support while I do things like surf the web or watch tv, and I probably put the product through 5 twists and turns daily as I take it off and put it back on. I'm sure it would last a longer time if I were merely an occasional user.

UPDATE: I emailed the company about my problem on May 23. After a few days of non-response, I posted an update that I had not heard from the company. BUT see the next update -----

UPDATE 2: June 9, 2010 --- I got an email from customer service telling they will be shipping me a new power cable. I applaud the company for finally responding. It would have been nice to have received an acknowledgment of my May 23 email, though. All this time I have been thinking that the company ignored my request for support. I will update again if and when I receive the replacement. I think I will wrap some electrical tape around the power cord at the junction of the cord and the insertable power connector plug this time --- Maybe that will provide some extra stiffness and prevent another failure.

UPDATE 3 ------ July 25, 2010 ---- I received the new power supply a couple of weeks ago. I immediately wrapped it in electrical tape to try to provide some extra support to the weak junction between the flimsy cord and the plug. So far so good. Can't complain about the customer support I suppose. Let's hope they redesign the power connector for the next model. I don't think I'll ask for support again. When (if) the power connector fails, I will buy a different model.
