Customer rating is 3 of 5  Boot program needs an overhaul   2010-08-24
By Gift Recipient (San Antonio)
Ubuntu is a very good OS of itself once you get it installed. Canonical needs to overhaul their install program if they want to ever want to be competitive.

I have a typical computer with an AMD processor. I first downloaded the program, followed the instructions and burned it on a DVD. I went to boot off of it and I got a blank screen. I decided to burnit on another DVD, then a CD...same problem. After almost pulling my hair out, I went to the support forum and found out my video card was out of sync. To get it to work, I would need to first press the space bar to get the program to run, then type in a command that consisted of letters, numbers and gibberish. Finally Ubuntu came up so I could try it out on the CD.

Ubuntu advertises themselves as a consumer friendly program. If I have to research blogs to type in the right commands just to get it to work, then they're not consumer friendly. There is a market for a competitive OS without having to spend $2000 on a Mac. Ubuntu falls WAY short. I look at technology as a tool to get work done. I don't have time to go searching for drivers or learn unix commands. The point is for the OS to get out of the way so I can work.
Customer rating is 1 of 5  Pay for Ubuntu?   2010-07-25
By Aaron Roath
What are you, stupid? Ubuntu is free. You're looking at this on a computer, right? I'm guessing you have some kind of CD writing capable drive and CD writing software (which was standard on computers in the late 90's), right? Hell, even if you don't, you can have about 10 free copies sent to you. What's wrong with you, you idiot!?! Why is anyone even thinking of paying for Ubuntu? IT'S FREE!!! ALL VERSIONS!!!
Customer rating is 2 of 5  Worse then Ubuntu 9.4   2010-06-26
By Ira Savatgy (Bellingham, WA, USA)
I installed the upgrade eagerly because i thought it would look smoother and run better.

However, as soon as i installed it, The operating system startup time increased to like 20 seconds, (time it takes for desktop to open up from logon screen) Also, High frame rate flash glitches out. (Flash on web)

Low resolution yucky startup screen. also, when i boot up to ubuntu now, its lists these nforce errors.

i wish i could somehow go back to Ubuntu 9.4, as it looked better, ran better, and just worked better.

I still use ubuntu just because you dont have to worry about any viruses, but i prefer to use windows 7.

To sum it all up, This version of ubuntu is like the the Windows Vista for microsoft.

Major dissapointment. Hopefully the next version released is fixed up.
Customer rating is 1 of 5  Poor service and product!   2010-06-18
By Julius Barns (Roanoke, VA)
Not what I was hoping for...
Just like the other person who reviewed this product, I am extremely unhappy with the package I received. It is poorly home-made, unprofessional CD with marker writing on it. The installation is stuck on a second screen with a message "error" that is apparently problem on this CD, very poor product and service. Avoid, don't waste your time.
Customer rating is 1 of 5  Not good, does not worth paying...   2010-06-02
By Sandra (NJ)
The disk I received was poorly made in paper envelop, with dirty printing on it. CD arrived all scratched and cracked in a middle because of bad packaging. I am newbie, trying Linux for a first time. Ubuntu is great (probably)if you can use the disk and actually install it. The package I received is a piece of crap.
